This past week was bittersweet............I sent my first born off to college......I am so happy for him, but so sad for me......the house is so empty without him......
I can never do anything just ordinary, so when it came time to furnish my son's dorm room...........which was just this side of jail looking.... I decided....since my baby was going to spend the next nine months in this cold, cynderblock walled room..........I was going to really jazz it up for him......so I went.......with debit card in hand.........I want "a shoppin' "..........
Only one little tidbit I couldn't quite grasp.........I am furnishing a D-O-R-M room....not a Park Avenue Apartment ANYWAY..........I went on my merry way and hit Bed, Bath and Beyond.....Target......IKEA........and Pier I all in search of the perfect decor for my boys dorm room..........I spared no expense on bedding....since the beds in the dorm look like a slab......a skeevy one at that.....I went all out with the best feather bed, comforter....the works.......I also went crazy buying lamps, a table, comfy chair, chair cushion, desk accessories...closet space savers, snacks, decorative boxes, fluffy towels, hangers....throw pillows, rug, and anything else Bed Bath and Beyond had on their trusty list......
Well..........when it was time to transport it to the college...my husband borrowed a mini van ..........
We all woke up nicely on Tuesday morning...move in day......perfect weather.....everything was hunky dorey until my hubby saw the pile of shit that he had to try to fit into the mini van.........he had a stroke.....lecturing me that I bought to much stuff and he doesn't need all this stuff in that tiny room...he was going on and on and on and on..........he fit it all in but he said we looked like the Beverly Hillbillies pulling up to this beautiful University with all this crap.............my younger son said this reminded him of the car in the Vacation movies...."The Family Truckster"
...........well all I have to say is.....I can sleep soundly at night knowing my baby's dorm room has all the comforts of home in it.......and yes, he is a boy........and it is not decorated frilly.....but masculine but cozy. Hey....if your mom can't pamper you...who will??? And....yes I cried when he walked off into the sunset to his new adventure.........
